Scientists of the Laboratory of Biotechnology of the regional branch "Kainar" of “Kazakh Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute” LLP carry out research works at the potato minituber plant. The plant is located in the village of "Kainar" Karasai district of Almaty region.

The Kazakh Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute is a subsidiary of "National Agrarian Science and Educational Center" JSC. KazFVRI faces the tasks of developing agricultural science in the field of horticulture and vegetable growing, as well as providing Kazakhstani farmers with effective tools for applying modern technologies and high-quality planting material in these sectors. 

Scientists of “Kazakh Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute” LLP carried out work at the plant which improves the planting material of potatoes of 14 varieties of domestic and foreign potatoes selection: Axor, Alliance, Babayev, Miras, Zhanaisan, Karasaiskiy, Pamyat Konayeva, Tamasha, Ulan, Ushkonyr, Sante, Latona, Rodeo and Gala using the apical meristem culture method in combination with thermotherapy. The apical meristem is identified from the listed potato varieties. The number of isolated explants was 923. Of these, 370.8 pieces or 40.0% of regenerated plants were obtained, which were cultivated on an artificial nutrient medium.

Within the framework of spring field work the scientists have carried out work on microlonal multiplication of plants-regenerants of potato plants of domestic and foreign breeding in the invitro culture in the amount of 33.2 thousand pieces for planting in protected ground, of which 29.8 thousand pieces were planted in a greenhouse for the production of potato minitubers.

Work has also been carried out on the preparation of a greenhouse for the cultivation of minitubers. 29.8 thousand pieces of potato regenerated plants were planted in the greenhouse for the first turn to produce minitubers. Work is underway to care for plants (watering, , treatment, feeding, cultivation, etc.).

Work was carried out to diagnose 500 pieces of samples of potatoes of domestic and foreign selection for the presence of viral infections PVX, PVS, PVM and PVY by immunoenzyme analysis.

As part of the spring field work, scientists from the biotechnology laboratory of Kazakh Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute from March 2020 have been planting test tube plants of potato regenerants in the greenhouse for the first revolution for the production of minitubers. Currently, plant care is being carried out (plant nutrition, loosening, watering and applying mineral fertilizers, treatment with pesticides and treatment with fungicides against diseases).

At present, plant care (plant feeding, loosening, irrigation and application of mineral fertilizers, treatment with insecticides against pests and treatment with fungicides against diseases) is being carried out.
