LLP “Kazakh U.U.Uspanov “Research Institute of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry” is a scientific organization of NASEC JSC and today it is the leading institution in the country, engaged in fundamental and applied research in the field of soil and agrochemical science.
Kazakh Research Institute of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry works on the study of the consistent pattern of soil and soil cover formation and their assessment based on GIS technologies.
One of the research projects was carried out in 2012-2014, soil scientists conducted a study “Assessing of the modern state of agricultural land in the Eastern Aral Sea”. The current state of the soils of the most typical degree of manifestation of the processes of anthropogenic transformation of agricultural and pasture regions of the North-Eastern Aral Sea region has been studied: the main physicochemical and morphological properties of virgin soils and used agricultural soils, processes occurring in soils as a result of anthropogenic factors.
During the study, soil scientists developed a structure and created a database of soil data for these territories.
Modern electronic versions of soil maps of key areas have been compiled, using geographic information technologies in MapInfo Professional and using satellite imagery and field research data.
Also, parameters and criteria for soil degradation have been developed, principles and methods of mapping anthropogenic soil transformation considering the criteria and factors of soil degradation, electronic versions of soil degradation maps have been compiled.
