In 2019/20 MY, Kazakhstan turned to be the leading exporter of flaxseed in the world, declared the expert of the Kazakh Grain Union, Evgeny Karabanov on September 28 within the online conference.

He said that the country produced about 880 thsd tonnes of flaxseed in the current year.

“Kazakhstan is the global player on the flaxseed market. The share of the country is about 25% in the global production and more than 30% in the global export. In recent years, Kazakhstan was the largest producer of flaxseed in the world and took 2-3 place among the leading exporters. In 2019/20 MY, the country moved to the 1^st place among the TOP-exporters”, - the expert said.

E.Karabanov added that Kazakh rapeseed producers would be able to get high profit this year, despite the significant decline of planted area under the crop, as the yield would be better and the damage from pests is null.

“Kazakhstan is among TOP-10 largest rapeseed exporters in the world. It took 6-7 place in different years. The country will export about 42 thsd tonnes of rapeseed this season, down 40% compared to the previous year. Processing will depend on China as Kazakhstan exported 95% of its rapeseed oil to China in two recent years. Further export will depend on GMO issue after China has found GMO in Russian and Kazakh oil. Nevertheless, the export of rapeseed to China will remain”, - he added.
