In 1991 Kazakhstan did not have its own cotton varieties, at present 13 new domestic competitive, precocious, disease-drought-tolerant, high-yield with good fiber quality cotton varieties of the "Mactaaral" series have been created (all varieties have patents and author's certificates), which were quickly introduced into production. (7 varieties of cotton have successfully passed state tests).

In 2016, more than 85% or 94 thousand hectares of 110 thousand hectares of crops in Turkistan region were occupied under domestic cotton varieties. Varieties are rapid and mature in 115-117 days. The average yield is 45-50 c/ha, with the potential reaching 58-60 c/ha.

In the unofficial world rating on yield our republic in 1998 among the 95 cotton sowing countries of the world occupied the 26 place, in 2007-2010 - the 21-23 place, in 2012-2014 - the 10-11 place.

Today the cotton industry of our republic is a steadily developing industry, which does not depend on neighboring countries by varieties, seeds and technologies. Our domestic cotton varieties have aroused great interest from foreign countries. There were requests for permission to receive the gene pool from the United States, Montana state, Arkansas state (2003), China (2005-2017), Brazil (2008), Tajikistan (2008) and Argentina (2011).

Since 2018, the cotton variety "Maktaaral-4011" has been introduced into production in the corporation "Raigorod" of the Volgograd region in Russian Federation (in 50 km from Volgograd) on an area of about 4 thousand hectares with scientific support of scientists from the Kazakh scientific and research institute of cotton growing.

Kazakhstan cotton fiber of domestic varieties is exported to more than 10 countries - Russia, Belarus, Germany, Latvia, Moldova, China, Belgium, Iran, Ukraine, Italy and Korea.
