LLP “Kazakh U.U.Uspanov Research Institute of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry” is a scientific organization of “National Agrarian Science and Educational Center” JSC.

Being the leading institution in the country for basic and applied research in the field of soil and agrochemical science, Kazakh Research Institute of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry conducts research on the patterns of soil and soil cover formation and their assessment based on GIS technologies. Thus, in 2006-2008, scientists of Kazakh Research Institute of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry conducted a research project “Soil and Information System of Zhambyl region”. In the process of performing the work, the following results were obtained: the structure was developed and a database of the soil data was created, which contained 678 sections, including 90 obtained in the course of the project.

On the basis of satellite imagery and field route studies, a soil map of the Zhambyl region was compiled at a scale of 1: 500,000, a legend and a list of soils to the map were compiled. The soil map also contains a database of soil types, subtypes and genera, soil texture, as well as data on the structure of the soil cover.  A rating scale has been developed as well as Zhambyl oblast’s map of the soil quality index have been compiled.
