On October 2, 2020, a subsidiary of the National Agrarian Science and Educational Center JSC, the Kazakh research institute of livestock and fodder production (KazRILFP), held a field seminar in the Almaty region at the demonstration fields of the KazRILFP Kurozek” EFF.

The field workshop was held within the framework of the Agreement * between KazRILFP and the FAO / GEF project “Integrated natural resource management in drought-prone and saline agricultural production landscapes of Central Asia and Turkey” (CACILM-2).

The purpose of the seminar is to disseminate knowledge about sustainable management of pasture resources, about pasture crops resistant to drought and salinity, about techniques for improving and restoring degraded pastures and their demonstration in the field. 

The seminar was attended by representatives of farms and peasant farms, local akimats, the regional office of the CACILM-2 program, employees of KazRILFP - specialists in pasture management.

The seminar became a dialogue platform for the exchange of views, knowledge and experience, identification of the problems facing the livestock and fodder industries in Kazakhstan in the face of climate change, increasing droughts, pasture degradation and finding the ways to solve them.

The seminar participants were shown sowing of promising pasture crops (wheatgrass, sainfoin etc), a study tour of the KazRILFP model farm, information materials on promising drought and salt tolerant pasture crops, as well as a training module for farmers on pasture management were provided.

The seminars were held with the written permission of the Department for Quality Control and Safety of Goods and Services of the Almaty Region of the Committee for Quality Control and Safety of Goods and Services of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in compliance with the mask regime and social distance.
