On May 11, 2020, scientists at “Pavlodar Agricultural Experimental Station” LLP conducted an online consultation on the topic “Sugar beet cultivation in the Pavlodar region”. The speakers at the consultation were Deputy Director for Science N. Kuznetsova, and head of the department for agriculture Sarbasov A.K.
“Pavlodar Agricultural Experimental Station” LLP is a subsidiary of the “National Agrarian Science and Educational Center” JSC, providing scientific support for the sustainable development of the agro-industrial complex of Pavlodar region.
Scientists of “Pavlodar Agricultural Experimental Station” LLP carry out work in such specializations as: horticulture, fodder production, breeding and primary seed production of cereals, cereals, annuals and perennial herbs. It has the status of a manufacturer of original and elite seeds.
During the consultation, experts from the “Pavlodar Agricultural Experimental Station” LLP spoke about ongoing work on the cultivation of sugar beets in the Pavlodar region.
It is worth noting that at present 95% of sugar in Kazakhstan is produced from imported raw sugar and only 5% from domestic raw materials - sugar beets. As a result, Kazakhstan is an importer of sugar, while it has the economic potential for self-sufficiency from domestic raw materials.
According to experts, the annual sugar consumption in Kazakhstan is about 500-600 thousand tons, while Kazakhstani factories produce only 20-30% of this volume.
As you know, the construction of a sugar factory is planned in the Pavlodar region, in connection with this, to ensure the raw materials of this plant, it is necessary now to study the potential of sugar beets in the conditions of Pavlodar region.
In 2019, “Pavlodar Agricultural Experimental Station” LLP conducted experimental sowing, located on farms of the region with different soil and climatic conditions, where the yield was from 400 to 700 kg / ha with average sugar content in root crops of 16%, which indicates the potential for cultivating this culture.
