Scientists of “Qazaq Research Institute of Fruit and Vegetable Growing” conducted an online consultation on the topic "The Current state of potato seed production". The speaker of the consultation was the head of the laboratory of the QazRIFVG, candidate of agricultural sciences, associate professor Tokbergenova Zhursingl Abdigaparqyzy.

 

Potato in Kazakhstan is a strategic crop and is cultivated on an area of ​​more than 200 thousand hectares. With an average crop yield of 17.5-18 t / ha, the gross harvest of tubers is in the range of 3.5-3.6 thousand tons.

 

Potato production in Kazakhstan fully covers the needs of the population for marketable products (1700-1800 thousand tons or about 100 kg per person).

In the system of measures aimed at increasing potato productivity, the leading place belongs to seed production.

Seed production is an extensive set of special techniques and methods for reproducing planting material of potatoes, aimed at restoring the crop and other economically valuable properties of the crop.

It is known that in a market economy, new demands are made on the yield and quality of potato planting stock.

Producers of seed potatoes pay great attention to highly productive domestic varieties with good qualities.

 

The online consultation initiated by “NASEC” JSC on the topic “The current state of potato seed production” aroused great interest among potato farmers, the private sector, and gardening enthusiasts of Kazakhstan, who actively participated in the discussion of urgent problems on potato seed production.

All consultation participants were interested in questions on domestic new varieties of potatoes, their productivity and resistance to diseases, all agrotechnical measures on caring for plants during the growing season. A lot of questions were about crop rotation, mineral fertilizers, pesticides and potato dressers.

 

Tokbergenova Zh.A. spoke about modern technology for cultivating seed potatoes, conducting primary seed culture based on biotechnology methods. The speaker answered questions in detail: on new varieties of domestic breeding, which are in demand in the market, about their economically valuable utility. She also answered the urgent question among farmers: “What diseases do potatoes affect when grown in the field, and what control measures exist?”. Frequently asked questions about the rate, timing and density of planting potatoes, measures to combat weed vegetation. Many were interested in watering potatoes during the growing season.
