Subsidiary of the “National Agrarian Science and Educational Center” JSC – “South-West Research Institute of Livestock and Plant Production” LLP received the first offspring of 50 lambs from crossbreeding of local sheep breeds with the Dorper breed imported from Europe. Scientists have successfully carried out the crossbreeding of the local breed ewes with rams Dorper breed.

Dorper is a fast-growing meat sheep with short, light wool. Dorper adapts well to various climatic and pasture conditions. Also can be emphasized such feature of the breed as ability to quickly weight up.

In 2019, Zh.Parzhanov, Deputy General Director of the South-West Research Institute of Livestock and Plant Production, brought in two rams, which were launched into flocks of two peasant farms in the Otrar district.

Dorper breed are considered the most unpretentious breed, capable of enduring the same sinister summer weather and thirty-degree frost. At the same time, they do without water for a long time and feed on small volumes of food, increasing body weight. Due to the smooth skin and minimal wool cover, the rams do not need a haircut.

The South-West Research Institute of Livestock and Plant Production conducts research work in the livestock and crop industry of Kazakhstan and implements them in production.

The main mission of the institute is to provide new opportunities for the development of livestock and crop production by creating and distributing breeding and seed material, as well as promising technologies for the South-West region of Kazakhstan.
