Kurishbayev Akylbek Kazhigulovich is Doctor of agricultural sciences, professor.

Kurishbayev A.K. was born in 1961 in Almaty city. In 1983 he graduated with honors from the Kazakh Agricultural Institute with a degree in agricultural chemistry and soil science. He began his career in 1983 at the V.V. Williams Kazakh research institute of agriculture.

He worked in Kazakh research institute of agriculture and plants growing until 1997, having gone the path from a laboratory assistant in the department of agricultural soil science to the deputy director. In 1997 he was appointed director of the Kazakh research institute of grain farming named after A.I. Baraev. In 2002-2005 worked as vice-minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 2006, he headed the Department of Science of the Ministry of Agriculture of the RK. Since 2007, worked at position of vice-minister of agriculture of the RK. Since April 2008 was Minister of agriculture of the RK. Since October 18, 2011 was appointed at position rector of the Kazakh agro-technical university (KazATU) named after S.Seifullin.

The main area of research is the issues of humus formation under conditions of anthropogenesis, quantitative and qualitative assessment of the humus state of arable soils of the Kazakhstan, which are of paramount importance for the country's agriculture. He established the pattern of changes in the organic matter of soils in the conditions of rainfed, non-irrigated and irrigated agriculture of soils erosively hazardous and technologically contaminated. For the first time, systems of background and diagnostic indicators characterizing the dynamics of the humus state of soils are proposed, a method for determining the content of the active (labile) fraction of humus, which is of particular value from the standpoint of near reserves of soil fertility, is developed. On the basis of the created information database, he proposed a mathematical model for the relationship of soil organic matter with its agronomic properties and crop yields. The marginal and optimal levels of humus content in soils are experimentally substantiated, which makes it possible to predict the change and regulate their humus state in agrocenoses.

Kurishbayev A.K. was awarded the medal “20 years of Astana”, the medal “20 years of Independence of the RK” (2011), the orders “Kurmet” (2012) and “Parasat” (2018). He is a laureate of the prize of A.I. Baraeyv, holder of the honorary title “Kazakhstanyn enbek sіnіrgen қairatkeri” (2006).
