With deep sadness we inform about great loss for the agrarian science of Kazakhstan, that an authoritative scientist in the field of agriculture, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, laureate of the Lenin Prize Erwin Frantsevich Gossen passed away.

Erwin Gossen is a well-known agricultural scientist, Kazakh public figure and organizer of agricultural science, Doctor of agricultural sciences (1991), professor, Lenin Prize Laureate (1972) he is one of the developers of a system for protecting soil from wind erosion.

We are immensely grateful to Erwin Gossen for his invaluable contribution to the development of the agricultural sector of Kazakhstan. He devoted scientific activity to the issues of the soil-protective system of agriculture. In 1972, Erwin Gossen, together with the director of the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture A. I. Barayev and a number of other scientists, became the Lenin Prize laureate as one of the developers of the system for protecting the soil from wind erosion.

Erwin Gossen was born on July 18, 1931 in the village of Valtheim of Molochansky district, Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine. From 1969 to 1982, Erwin Gossen worked as deputy director for science at the All-Union scientific research institute for grain farming (currently the Scientific-production center for grain farming named after A.I. Barayev). From 1982 to 1984, he was deputy chairman of the Eastern branch of Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences. From 1984 to 1996, he worked at the Kazakh Academy of Agricultural Sciences, heading the Department of Agriculture, сhemicalization, water and forestry, and agroecology.

 He devoted more than 50 years to science and reached very high achievements in the field of agriculture. He conducted research and led the compilation of agrotechnical requirements for new tillage implements and sowing machines, dealt with the problems of protecting soils from erosion. Since 2005 works of academician E.Gossen tend to improve innovations, characterized by changes in technologies and methods of organizing a particular production, with a bias in compliance with environmental laws that contribute to environmental protection and restoration of balance in nature. Based on the analysis of priority models of economy sectors, he formulated proposals for organizing international and Kazakhstani clusters that contribute to sustainable development, ranking them according to the level of management. A special place in the work of academician E. Gossen is given to the creation of a forest reclamation landscape-health-improving zone “Astana - Burabay”.

E. Gossen published about 200 scientific works in which he takes a positive position in implementing economic and political reforms, fostering citizenship and patriotism, strengthening interethnic and interfaith harmony.

For tireless work and a huge contribution to the agricultural science of the Republic of Kazakhstan E.F. Gossen was awarded with number of high awards: the medal "For the development of virgin and fallow lands", the gold and bronze medals of the VDNKh of the USSR, the anniversary medal "For valiant labor", the gold medal and the title of Lenin Prize Laureate, badges in honor of the development of virgin and fallow lands, orders “Badge of Honor”, ​​“Labor Red Banner”, “Dostyk”, “Otan”; medals- “50 years of Kalmykia” named after S.I. Vavilov, “Veteran of Labor”, “Uly Otan sogysyndagy zheniske 60 zhyl”, “10 years for Kazakhstan Constitution”, “100 years of academician A.I. Barayev”, “Uly Otan sogysyndagy zhiniske 65 zhyl”; Certificates of honor - the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR, the Ministry of Agriculture of Buryatia, the All-Union Society “Knowledge”, the magazine “Agitator of Kazakhstan”, the collegium of the Ministry of Sciences, the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan in connection with the 50th anniversary of the Academy of Sciences of the RK.

The management team and staff of NASEC JSC deeply mourn over the death of a unique scientist and expresses condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Erwin Gossen.
