On May 6, 2020, an online consultation was held with the participation of scientists from the Zh.Zhimbayev Kazakh Research Institute of Plant Protection and Quarantine.

The Kazakh Research Institute of Plant Protection and Quarantine is a subsidiary of the National Agrarian Science and Educational Center” JSC, today it is the only specialized institution in Kazakhstan that carries out important strategic, environmental, economic and social plans to search for ways to increase efficiency scientific research in the field of plant protection and quarantine.

The scientists of the institute are working on the development of an integrated system for protecting plants from pests, in order to reduce the pesticidal load on agrophytocenoses, and scientific support of plant quarantine for national security (food, environmental, biological) of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During the online consultation, the head of the laboratory of pesticide toxicology of Kazakh Research Institute of Plant Protection and Quarantine, candidate of biological sciences Rvaydarova Gulnisa Olakayevna talked about the role of pesticides and their impact on product quality.

As you know, people's health is 70% dependent on the ecological environment of living and nutrition. Food products of plant and animal origin can be contaminated with pesticides used in agriculture to control pests, diseases and weeds.

“1,000 chemical compounds are known, on the basis of which more than 20,000 pesticides have been created. For example, the “List of pesticides approved for use on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan” includes more than 200 types of active substances, on the basis of which more than 750 drugs are allowed to be used, and this list is annually updated with 20-30 drugs. Almost all food products are produced using it. On average, during the process of  analyzing about 10% of the products, 50-60% of the samples contain pesticide residues, 5-10% are higher than sanitary standards. Pesticides, in turn, are alien chemical poisons for warm-blooded animals and humans. Daily use of food products of crops with residual trace amounts of pesticides for food can lead to catastrophic situations associated with the appearance of terrible diseases, such as cerebral palsy, cancer of various organs and a mutation of the next generation of a person,” - G. Rvaidarova said.

In 2015-2018 According to the analysis of samples of vegetables and fruits from the markets of Almaty, it was shown that residual amounts of various pesticides are present in apples, pears, peaches, grapes, cucumbers, tomatoes, cabbage, eggplant and onions.

Organochlorine pesticide (DDT) was found in beef brisket in trace amounts below the maximum allowable level. This once again proves that this substance is extremely stable in nature, decomposes very slowly. Belongs to the most toxic polluting components. Increases its concentration along the food chains, which poses a threat to humans.

Most pesticides accumulate in fat - fat tail, fatty bird. In fat, they almost do not decompose. DDT was used in agriculture in the 60s of the last century, which led to environmental pollution. Its traces are found to date in animal meat, fish, chicken, crops and soil. Soil samples from different regions of the country were studied. The MPC was exceeded by 5–7 times. In humans, organochlorine pesticides accumulate in the liver, kidneys and adipose tissue. Therefore, most countries have restricted or completely prohibited it.
