On January 16, 2020, Chairperson of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Dariga Nazarbayeva held a meeting of AIС Committee.
During the meeting, Rector of the Kazakh National Agrarian University, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan T. Yespolov for the further development of the agricultural industry noted the importance of creating a world-class university in Kazakhstan. Thus, T. Yespolov spoke about the achievements and tasks of the university.
“In order to achieve its objectives, the university adopts the experience of Wageningen University (Netherlands), which is the number 1 university in the QS ranking. Taking into account the experience of the University of Wageningen, we ask you to transfer 5 research institutes and 2 SPCs of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the university for the training of specialists through the science, in research institutes,” T.Yespolov said.
The universities of KazNAU and Wageningen signed a memorandum on joint training of specialists in two educational programs: “Plant Science” and “Food Technology”.
“Today, the university is implementing a double diploma program with 7 leading universities in the world. University scientists carry out 100 scientific projects totaling more than 2 billion tenge. 10 startups worth about 1 billion tenge are being commercialized. Since this year, an Agrotechnological hub has been operating. It consists of 6 research institutes of the university, 8 innovation centers and 31 open-type research laboratories, which work on the orders of the business and for the entire NASEC JSC system. Over the past 5 years, 6 laboratories and 2 centers have been created,” T.Yespolov emphasized.
To train practice-oriented specialists, the university is working on the integration of education, science and industry. Together with all the research institutes of the NASEC JSC, scientists provide scientific consulting services and conduct advanced training courses for rural entrepreneurs in 9 regions and 88 regions of the republic in educational, research and production centers. Extension programs are being implemented.
On the basis of the educational-experimental farm, it is planned to create an “Agrotechnopark”, a machine-testing station, an experimental training ground for 10 types of crops. 2 demonstration livestock farms are being created.
Within the framework of the “Rukhani Zhangyru” program, there are more than 12 centers: N. Nazarbayev Center: Education and Science, “Library of the First President”, Student Assembly “Dostyk”, “Clean Planet”, Institute of Social and Humanitarian Education and Training named after O. Suleimenova, etc.
Such systematic work allowed the university to take its rightful place in 9 international and national rankings, including 651 place in the global QS ranking. Among the 10 Kazakhstani universities included in the QS rating, the university takes 5th place.
The goal is to become a world-class university with a QS-300 rating by 2024.
